The western world has felt the recession in every aspect of their lives. Â The effect has eventually trickled down to Senegal.
It is a common African practice to send money to family members on the Continent. Â Usually it is just to help out, but in Senegal it has kept the economy going for the last 20 years. Money is sent from relatives in the U.S. and Europe and Senegal's economy came to rely on this sure money.
Monthly money is now only coming once every 3 months, if that.
Many families that relied on this money have found themselves not able to buy everyday necessities. Â Loss of income and uncertainty in the current financial climate have forced Africans abroad to for the first time look out for how they will survive before sending money back home.Â
