The woman accused of abusing teenagers at Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in South Africa was acquitted of the charges yesterday, and Winfrey said she was "profoundly disappointed" by the trial's outcome.

President Yar’Adua at age 58 died after an ongoing struggle with an acute heart condition. A state funeral will be held in his native Katsina, followed by seven days of national morning.

Khalid Deng, former Sudanese slave has been free for two years. He was born into slavery after his mother’s abductor’s raped her in a cattle camp in north Sudan.

Omar al-Bashir won re-election with 68 percent of the vote in Sudan’s first multiparty elections in almost 25 years.  The National Election Commission reported that Omar al-Bashir won roughly two-thirds of the vote.
