Nnena Omali – Afro Centric Expression

Afro fusion singer and guitarist; Nnena omali has presented to her endearing fans the gift of her new single titled ‘Palava’. The upbeat song which brandishes ethnicity with the contemporary has been garnering pleasant reviews as well as acclaim.

Nnena who was known for her feature with rapper Modenine on the award winning song “Cry” in 2006 and for her song “Oluchi” which snagged an SMVA (Sound City Music Video Awards) nomination for best female video in 2008 has successfully gotten the attention of all who had looked forward to her next work in anticipation. Nnena whose music always reeks of the sweet smelling savour of Africa and the country of her birth ; Nigeria, has left many craving for the release of her long awaited album.

The song “Palava” which she emotively describes as the product of a past experience tells a tale on it’s own. In lieu of “Oluchi” which had touched on the touchy subject of abuse and battery exposing it’s ills with heartfelt imagery and lyrics; “Palava” is yet another expose; on the issue of poverty and how it has often led to societal misdemeanors or used as an excuse for illegality.

However, she adds a didactic twist to the expression.

Nnena Omali’s palava is proof yet again of the queen diva’s musical finesse as she rides serious lyrics on an afro- funk, playground of rhythm.

The wide spread edifying press reviews online as well as the continual praise from music lovers, can be regarded as evidence; that our dear Ms Afrocentric nailed it yet again.
